A number of students, this month, participated in the Chess Selection Competition, organised by the International Chess Academy of Oman. The competition included 45 students of grades 3 to7 and was held on the school premises on the 8th of May. Master Manav Malviya and Miss Lakshmi Sunil, both of Grade 7, were selected as the best out of the five rounds. The selection and competition were under the supervision of officials from the International Chess Academy. Manav got the chance to play with the former world-chess-champion, Viswanathan Anand and played him on the 13th of May, at Avenues Mall; he had a great experience with the former champion. Out of 25 participants, Manav finished his game in the top seven competitors. Lakshmi had the opportunity to attend Viswanathan Anand’s class held at the International Chess Academy, Muttrah. We are all very happy and proud of our students and their success.
Confluence 2015-16 was on 28th April, 2016 and focussed on ingraining a creative attitude in our young students to make them comprehend the interdependence of science, technology, mathematics, languages, social studies, music and art by a hands- on experience. It was inaugurated by Dr. John Philips Mathew, Ministry English Language Inspector.
On Saturday the 26th of March MISO held our Annual Day ‘Spectrum’. With 100% participation from the students, the tireless organisation by the teachers and the faultless support of the parents it was a grand success. We were extremely lucky to have all the three of the MISO directors Mr. Sooraj Ramachandran, Mr. Zohair Al-Lawati and Mr. Shabeer Boriwala not only attend the show which featured a variety of different artistic programmes in different languages including singing, dancing, acting, poetry recital, and mime, in English, French, Arabic and Hindi languages.
The annual event of KG students ‘Evening of colors’, was held on 25th of February 2016, at school. The chief guest for the evening were Ms. Khadija Ali Muhammed Al Sulami, Assistant Director General at Directorate of private schools, Ministry of Education was the chief guest of the day, who appreciated the efforts of kids on the stage.
Mst. Mohammed Iman and Ms. Nidhi Tamse of Grade 7 emerged as the winners in the under 13 category, Inter School Badminton Competition held at Al Amel Club, Muscat by the Ministry of Sports. The organizers awarded the winners with medal, trophy and certificates. We congratulate the proud winners
The MISO students of grade 4A & 4B had a memorable visit to the Qurm Nature Reserve to commemorate the World Wetland Day on 2nd February 2016. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs organized the Programme aimed to encourage conservation and development of nature, proper use of resources of wetlands, and conduct natural reserve activities.
It was an outstanding performance of students of MISO in GCC Spell Bee Championship held on 6th February 2016. Our students emerged as winners in all the categories they represented. School congratulates the first runner up in Category 2, Mst. Aradhya Somani, category 3, Mst. Kaivan Mithesh Ramani and Ms. Madhushree Prakash in category 4 and also the second runner up in category one, Mst. Swarith Arora.
Third Annual Sports Meet of MISO was held on 30th January 2016 at ‘Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex Indoor Stadium’. Sports is an activity involving physical exertion and skill. The competitive spirit, celebrating glory and accepting the defeat are all the part of the event. MISO students showed their performance is no way inferior to any of the sports events of higher magnitude
Ms. Surina of Grade 1, won second prize in the Sixth Annual Space Foundation International Student Art Contest. She is one among the 25 talented winners from among more than 3,883 global entries representing 40 countries including 38 U.S states. Also around 46 art work of our students were qualified for the contest.
“Sports are an integral part of every student’s life. Sports Day is a splendid occasion for them to showcase their speed and agility on the field”. The Kindergarten Sports day- ‘Race with family’ was held on the 21st January 2016 with the Theme- 5 elements of Nature, Air, Fire, Earth, Water and Space.
Primary Concert 2015 was celebrated for this academic year on Thursday, December 10, 2015. It was a Cultural Extravaganza of dance, music, drama, mime and many other forms of autistics expressions which left the specters filled with wonderment. A vibrant blend of art, dance, drama and music conquered the hearts of the audience.
‘International Year of Light 2015’ is a global initiative adopted by the United Nations to raise awareness of how optical technologies promote sustainable development and provide solutions to worldwide challenges in energy, education, agriculture, communications and health. School celebrated IYL with multifarious activities.
Muscat Science Fest was conducted on 26th and 27th November 2015 at Al Amirat Park. The fest aims to create an opportunity to stimulate interest in science and technology among student and to instill scientific spirit in the younger generation. From 113 teams three teams from Modern International School Oman had the privilege of presenting their working models on Hydralic City, Smartphone as a projector and microscope and Hydroponics respectively.
International Students’ Day was celebrated on 17th November by students and teachers of the school. Students were entertained by special performances by the teachers on this special occasion. Teachers and students participated in various games and activities on the day to celebrate the day.
Teacher Training Sessions were held on 14th November in Modern International School, Oman in two sessions. First half of the session was taken by Dr.Keshav Mandadi, the school director, on the topic ‘21st Century Skills’ and the second half was engaged by resource team members from ‘Sai Group’, on the topic ‘Integration of Human Values in Teaching’.
A "Mock fire drill" was held in the school on 5th of November 2015. It was aimed at imparting to the students and other staffs in the school on proper procedure for evacuating the building in real life emergency situation. It was a well-planned activity and was executed in a premeditated way.
The students of grade 5A and 4A, along with teachers visited the International Exhibition for Female Photographers 2015 at the Photographic Society of Oman, Muscat, on 26th October 2015. The students felt proud to get a glimpse of the 40 creative images from 37 participants belonging to 15 different countries.
MISO students brought laurels to the school by winning awards for their performance in Artistic and Literary Creation Competition organized by the Embassy of France and Embassy of Germany. Roland Dubertrand, Ambassador of France and Hans Christian, Ambassador of Germany were the chief guest at the function where the following students were facilitated with certificates and prizes.
The kindergarten department of MISO organized “My Daddy the master Chef” event on 17th October 2015. The children and their eager fathers had 30 minutes to prepare any dish without involving the use of gas stove or other gadgets for cooking. After a lot of deliberation the winners were presented with a MISO Master Chef 2015 sash and memento by principal and the judges.
The MISO children celebrated Grandparents Day on 10th October 2015, to honor their wonderful grandparents. The formalities of the day were followed by many exciting games where both the children and their grandparents had endless fun. To conclude the day a memento was bestowed upon each grandparents from MISO as reminder of the special day spent with us and their grandchildren.
It has been rightly said, “A teacher inspire hope, ignite the imagination and instill a love of learning.” Keeping in mind the everlasting gratitude given to the teachers in the society, the students of MISO, with intense love and regard, organized a cultural extravaganza for their educators on October 5th on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day. Conducted by the school’s Student Council, students of grade 7 and 4, the celebration was their modest endeavor to express their heartfelt gratitude for their tutors. The event thus capped on a note from the Principal, Mr. Krishna Bangera about the significance of the educators in everyone’s life.
An initiative undertaken by Bhavans – Middle East, to enhance communication skill, expand vocabulary, encourage usage, enliven the learning of spelling and pronunciation and ensure self-learning. The different rounds are designed by veterans in the field taking care of the previous knowledge and the need of various age groups. The competition begins at the school level and it was conducted on September 21st 2015 at the school premises.
Modern International School held a special assembly on 17/9/15 to commemorate the festival of EID UL ADHA, celebrated by Muslims all over the world on 24/9/15. Then the students of grade 5, 6 and 7 gave a commentary and enacted the main tenants and procedures of performing Hajj and highlighted their importance. The assembly concluded with the address of Vice- Principal Mr. Radhi. The children thoroughly enjoyed the special assembly.
The ‘Art in Action’ competition was held on 10th September 2015 in Modern International School for all the classes from grade 1 to grade 7. An assortment of creative topics and mediums was assigned to each grade, including photography for grade 7.The incredible efforts of the learners showed just how rich the talent and enthusiasm of the learners in MISO are.
Investiture of Prefects’ Council 2015-16 Young leaders have taken oath to shoulder the responsibilities on their young shoulders during 'Investiture ceremony 2015'. It was a proud moment for all the newly appointed prefects to be honored with badges and colors from the school director Mr.Zohair AlLawati. This first event of the school will set the right tone for the term. Leaders are on their toes to perform better and take the school ahead.
Freshers Day held in the school for showcasing the capabilities and talents of new students before the whole school. These kinds of events give the children a chance to shed their inhibition and stand on the stage. The children were appreciated and applauded for their skills and efforts in performing Kathak, Rubik’s cube show, Singing, Dancing, and Recitation etc.
Teacher training session was held in the school on 9th August 2015. Role of a teacher in molding the students’ career, teacher as friend philosopher guide, instructional strategies and clarity in instructions are the points covered in the session. All teaching staff were enthusiastically participated in the session.
Staffs of MISO are gearing up to welcome the children to the new academic session. A session on the effective class room management technique and conflict management was held. The various class room techniques were shared with the participants. The session on conflict management made the participant to know their style of conflict management.
Kindergarten department organized an orientation programme for the parents of KG 2 on 15th August 2015 in the school premises. The objective of the programme was to make the parents aware of the kindergarten curriculum. Plan and action of activities in the year, Effective use of Parent Portal, role of parent in children academic growth in the school were some of the important issued discussed in the programme.
